Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has commended the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for their commitment to improving Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure and service delivery.
In a statement made available to journalists, Tegbe praised TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, describing it as a major milestone that will significantly increase transmission capacity across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The minister also lauded the collaboration between TCN and AEDC in responding to the sudden failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT last Friday, which disrupted power supply to parts of Abuja. According to him, both organisations swiftly deployed technical resources and worked round the clock to restore electricity within 24 hours.
He described the rapid response as a strong example of inter-agency cooperation and citizen-focused service delivery being promoted by the Ministry of Power.Tegbe further commended the management of NDPHC, led by its Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for successfully reviving the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State.
The power plant, developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), had been inactive since 2023. Its restoration, the minister noted, positions it to supply up to 375 megawatts of electricity to the national grid, boosting power availability in the South-East and enhancing grid stability nationwide.
The minister assured workers and agencies across the power sector that outstanding performance and productivity would continue to be recognised and rewarded under his leadership.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and urged stakeholders to remain innovative and dedicated to the goal of delivering reliable electricity to homes, businesses and industries across the country.
