Libyan security operatives have apprehended two Nigerian nationals over alleged involvement in drug trafficking in the North African country.
According to reports released on Sunday by Migrant Rescue Watch, the suspects were arrested by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Zliten, Libya.
The duo, who were reportedly undocumented migrants, were caught with quantities of hashish and hallucinogenic pills said to be packaged and ready for distribution.
The organisation disclosed that both suspects have since been handed over to the country’s Anti-Narcotics Agency for further investigation and prosecution.
“CID in Zliten arrested two undocumented migrants of Nigerian nationality on charges of drug trafficking. The individuals were found in possession of quantities of hashish and hallucinogenic pills ready for distribution,” Migrant Rescue Watch confirmed.
Libyan authorities have recently intensified their clampdown on undocumented migrants and drug trafficking syndicates across the country, as part of a wider effort to curb irregular migration and transnational crime.
