President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Monday depart Abuja for a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between both countries.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, titled “President Tinubu to Undertake State Visit to Türkiye.”
According to the statement, the visit is aimed at strengthening the longstanding cordial ties between Nigeria and Türkiye, while also exploring new areas of cooperation, particularly in security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
Onanuga noted that the visit also serves as a reciprocal gesture following the state visit to Nigeria by Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in October 2021.
During the visit, President Tinubu and Turkish authorities are expected to hold strategic political and diplomatic engagements centred on shared interests in finance, communications, trade and investment.
“The agenda will include meetings between senior government officials of both countries, as well as the signing of several memoranda of understanding covering areas such as scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military collaboration and protocol,” the statement said.
The programme will also feature a Nigeria–Türkiye business forum, bringing together investors from both nations to explore potential investment opportunities and partnerships.
Members of President Tinubu’s delegation for the bilateral engagements include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd); and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Defence, Jimi Benson.
Other members of the delegation are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the state visit.
