In a vibrant celebration of culture, creativity and community spirit, My Culture, My Pride Volume 2 brought together residents, creatives and youth advocates at a landmark event that showcased the rich cultural heritage of Kwara State.
The initiative, produced by Azcaf Surprise and supported by various stakeholders in the creative and civic spaces, highlighted the importance of cultural pride, artistic expression and youth participation in building a more inclusive society.
The event drew a diverse audience that included cultural enthusiasts, traditional leaders, community members and prominent voices in youth development.
Among the keynote speakers were Basheer Luqman Olarewaju, an influential thought leader and youth development advocate; Hajia Memunat Manzuma, Regional Ecosystem Coordinator for North Central & North West at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); Hon. Sulaimon Lekan Gadaff, community builder and ECOWAS Youth Ambassador; and Hon. Usman Taiwo Hassan, serial entrepreneur and farmer.
Their speeches underscored the value of cultural identity as a driver of social cohesion and creative potential in Kwara State.
Also in attendance were respected traditional figures including Etsu Patigi, President of the Northern Nigeria Students’ Association (NANUSA), and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, whose presence added gravitas to the celebration and reinforced the community’s shared commitment to preserving cultural heritage while empowering the next generation.
As part of the programme, participants were engaged in discussions, performances and showcases that brought to life the theme of My Culture, My Pride.
The initiative created space for young people to express their creative talents while embracing their cultural roots a blend of artistry, identity and purpose that resonated with attendees.
Speaking on behalf of Kwara Creatives, Habeeb Shuaib Ishowo , Creative Lead of Kwara Creatives, Creative Director of Kwara Must Change (KMC) and producer of The Bridge Podcast highlighted the importance of such platforms in nurturing grassroots creative talent.
He noted that the celebration of culture and pride through art strengthens communal bonds, promotes inclusion and inspires youth to harness their potential for national and global impact.
“My Culture, My Pride Volume 2 is more than an event, it’s a statement that our heritage is our strength, and our youthful creativity is the future.
When we come together to celebrate what makes us unique, we build bridges between tradition and innovation,” Ishowo said.
The success of My Culture, My Pride Volume 2 points to a growing synergy between culture, youth development and creative industries in Kwara State, with community leaders and national partners aligning to uplift local talent and amplify cultural narratives.
