The Kwara State chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has taken a major step towards promoting digital literacy by training its members on the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
As reported by NewKwara Media Online, the training was held on Friday during the association’s Annual National Education Summit in Ilorin and was organised in collaboration with Brain Builder Youths Development Initiatives (BBYDI).
The summit, themed “AI Literacy Training: Understanding and Using AI, Starting from Your Own Phone,” exposed participants to practical knowledge of AI tools, their everyday applications, and the precautions users must take while engaging with emerging technologies.
Participants were also guided through discussions under the broader theme, “The Ummah in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Challenges, Opportunities and Responsibilities,” which explored the growing influence of AI on education, communication, business, and social development.

Speaking during the event, the Director of Communications at Brain Builder Youths Development Initiatives, Sanni Alausa Issa, warned participants against sharing sensitive personal information with AI platforms.
He specifically cautioned users against uploading confidential data such as bank account details, passwords, private photographs, and other personal records that could compromise their security online.
According to him, while AI offers enormous opportunities for learning, productivity, and innovation, users must develop strong digital safety habits to avoid falling victim to cyber threats and privacy breaches.
The summit also attracted key government officials, including the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Lawal Olalekan Olohungbebe.
Responding to requests made by the association, the commissioner assured members that their appeal for a bus would be forwarded to the Kwara State Government for consideration.
The event highlights growing efforts across Kwara State to equip women and young people with digital skills as Artificial Intelligence continues to transform education, employment, communication, and development across Nigeria and beyond.
With AI becoming an increasingly important part of daily life, stakeholders at the summit stressed the need for responsible adoption, digital awareness, and continuous learning to ensure communities benefit from the technology while minimising its risks.
