The Federal Fire Service has successfully contained a residential fire outbreak at Suncity Estate, Galadima area of Abuja, preventing extensive damage and saving properties estimated at about ₦700 million.
The fire, which was caused by a lithium-powered solar inverter system, was brought under control through a joint emergency response by the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service.
In a statement issued on Sunday via its official Facebook page, the National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services of the Federal Fire Service, Mr Paul Abraham, said the operation was carried out by multiple firefighting units working in coordination.
According to him, the response team comprised firefighters from the RED HOUSE Federal Fire Headquarters led by DSF Bolaji, the Apo Station crew led by DSF Ogwuche, alongside personnel of the FCT Fire Service.
Abraham explained that the swift response was activated following a timely distress call from residents of the estate.
“Following a prompt alert from residents, fire officers were able to bring the fire under control after an hour-long firefighting operation. Properties valued at approximately ₦700 million were saved, and no casualties were recorded,” he said.
The Federal Fire Service used the incident to caution the public on the safe installation and maintenance of solar inverter systems, stressing the need for proper ventilation and routine inspections.
The service advised that only qualified technicians should handle the installation and servicing of such systems to prevent overheating and reduce fire risks.
It also emphasised the importance of early reporting of fire incidents, noting that timely alerts significantly help in minimising damage and loss.
Meanwhile, PUNCH Online had earlier reported a separate fire incident at Leventis Plaza in Abuja, where a tailoring workshop on the first floor of the complex was razed. The Federal Fire Service said the fire was suspected to have been triggered by an electrical surge.
