Tragedy has struck in Abuja as suspected gunmen abducted and killed a renowned veterinary doctor, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, while his three children remain in the hands of kidnappers.
Ogbu, a former chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), FCT chapter, was taken from his home in Kubwa alongside his children. His lifeless body was later discovered by the roadside, sparking outrage and grief across the country.
A close associate, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, who confirmed the incident on Facebook, said:
“Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa, Abuja, was found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene.”
The shocking development comes just days after the gruesome killing of Arise TV news anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was murdered during a robbery attack at her Katampe residence in Abuja. Maduagwu, 29, a lawyer-turned-journalist, was widely respected for her advocacy on gender-based violence and education reform.
President Bola Tinubu has already ordered security agencies to swiftly investigate Maduagwu’s killing, with Nigerians now demanding urgent action over the worsening insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory.

The death of Dr. Ogbu has sent shockwaves through the veterinary community, with colleagues describing him as a “dedicated professional and a great loss to the nation.”
One colleague wrote in tribute:
“Nigeria just happened to my age-long friend, Ifeanyi… His untimely death is a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to affect families and communities in Nigeria.”
Both killings have reignited debate about the safety of residents in Abuja, as many Nigerians continue to question the effectiveness of existing security measures.
