Nigerian musician Temilade Opeyemi, popularly known as Tems, has reached a new career peak, becoming the first female artist from Africa to land seven different songs in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
The Grammy winner secured this record after her track “What You Need” entered the chart at number 93 this week.
This latest entry brings her total count to seven, placing her in a three-way tie with Burna Boy and the South African band, Seether, for the most appearances by any African act in the chart’s history.
In 2022, Tems became the first African artist to debut at number one on the chart through “Wait For U,” her collaboration with Future and Drake. She is expected to take the lead solo record as early as next week.
Industry projections suggest “Bunce Road Blues,” a new track by J. Cole featuring Tems and Future, is likely to debut on the Billboard Hot 100, which would give her an eighth entry and move her past Burna Boy and Seether.
