Security has been beefed up across Ekiti State following recent attacks by suspected bandits in neighbouring Kwara and Kogi States.
The Ekiti State Police Command confirmed that it had intensified surveillance and patrols across all border communities to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the state.
Spokesperson for the command, SP Sunday Abutu, said the proactive move was to ensure that Ekiti remains safe amid rising security concerns in nearby states.
Abutu, who spoke with journalists in Ado-Ekiti, disclosed that a joint operation involving the Police, Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies had been launched to cover major entry and exit points as well as strategic areas across the state.
“Personnel from the Police Mobile Force, intelligence units, Amotekun, and local security networks are already on ground across border towns to deter and respond swiftly to any security threat,” he said.

He assured residents that the increased presence of security operatives should not trigger panic, describing the measure as preventive and necessary.
“The deployment is not to create fear but to ensure the safety of lives and property. Citizens are advised to go about their normal activities peacefully,” Abutu added.
He further revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, had directed operatives to be civil and professional while discharging their duties, even as residents were urged to report any suspicious movement within their communities.
Dismissing rumours circulating on social media, Abutu clarified that the security personnel currently deployed are all drawn from within Ekiti State, stressing that the operation is a locally coordinated effort to maintain peace and order.
With Ekiti sharing boundaries with Kwara and Kogi—two states that have recently witnessed coordinated attacks by armed groups—security watchers say the tightened measures are a timely step to forestall possible incursions.
