Former Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to head its Election Observation Mission for the upcoming presidential election in Côte d’Ivoire.

According to a statement released by ECOWAS, the crucial poll is slated for October 25, 2025, with the observation mission scheduled to operate between October 19 and 29, 2025. The move aligns with the ECOWAS Supplementary Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.

“As Head of Mission, Prof. Osinbajo will lead a delegation of distinguished West Africans who will engage with key national stakeholders to promote a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process,” the statement read.

The mission, it added, will also work closely with both international and domestic observer groups to evaluate the conduct of the polls and ensure adherence to democratic standards.

ECOWAS noted that the deployment of the team reflects its firm commitment to safeguarding peace, stability, and credible elections across the subregion.

The Côte d’Ivoire election is coming at a pivotal moment for West Africa, as several countries prepare for major national elections amid renewed efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and political stability.
