Matheus Cunha’s 87th-minute wondergoal sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory for Manchester United over Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, in a match that saw momentum swing back and forth until the final whistle.
Arsenal took the lead in the 29th minute through Lisandro Martinez’s own goal, giving the Gunners a seemingly comfortable start.
However, Manchester United capitalised on defensive lapses, with Bryan Mbeumo equalising before Patrick Dorgu fired home a stunning strike early in the second half to put the visitors ahead.
Arsenal substitute Mikel Merino briefly brought the hosts level, but Cunha’s curling effort from distance proved decisive, sending travelling United fans into raptures.
The victory marks Manchester United’s first comeback win at Arsenal in the Premier League since 2005 and their first away win over a team top of the table since March 2021.
Under interim manager Michael Carrick, United have now won back-to-back matches, climbing above Chelsea and Liverpool into fourth place. Meanwhile, Arsenal’s lead at the top of the league has been cut to just four points, highlighting cracks in their domestic form despite European success earlier in the week.
