The Management of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Teaching Hospital has dismissed allegations by the Nigerian Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), describing them as unfounded and misleading.
This development follows a notice of withdrawal of service issued by the Ondo State Council of NUAHP, signalling plans by its members to embark on industrial action over grievances with the hospital’s Management.
The planned move, if carried out, is expected to affect the delivery of key health services at the Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital, raising concerns among patients and stakeholders about potential disruptions in care.
But in a statement signed by the hospital’s Head of Public Relations, Tope Fayehun, the Management said it remains committed to staff welfare and the delivery of quality healthcare services.
The hospital denied claims of arbitrary staff removals, forceful transfers, departmental restructuring, demotions, and alleged intimidation, insisting that its actions follow due process and align with established standards for federal teaching hospitals.
According to the statement, the ongoing reforms at the hospital are part of efforts to reposition it following its transition to a federal tertiary health institution.
The management noted that the restructuring, supported by the Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria, is aimed at improving service delivery, upgrading facilities, and strengthening operations.
The hospital also recalled that prior to the transition, it faced operational challenges that affected service delivery and contributed to patients seeking care outside the state.
While urging members of the union to shelve the planned industrial action, the Management called for continued dialogue, stressing that cooperation is essential to sustain progress and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services.
The management reaffirmed its willingness to engage with stakeholders to resolve the issues amicably.
The statement reads, “We urge NUAHP Executives and members to shelve their planned action and rather engage constructively with Management through the ongoing dialogue channels.
“Your cooperation is and would continue to be vital to sustaining the current momentum of progress and the transitioning process while ensuring an uninterrupted compassionate care for our patients.
“The Management of the Futa Teaching Hospital remains open to dialogue and amicable resolution and invites all stakeholders to witness our dedication firsthand.”
