Political activities in Kwara State are beginning to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Prince Abubakar Suleiman, a Political Adviser to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, openly endorsing the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, for the governorship.

Suleiman, popularly known as “Sai Kai,” made the endorsement during a radio interview in Ilorin on Thursday. He said if the governorship ticket is eventually zoned to Kwara North, Danladi remains the most qualified candidate to lead the state.

According to him, the Speaker’s leadership qualities, administrative experience and strong connection with grassroots communities place him ahead of other potential contenders from the zone.

“In my own opinion, I will support Kwara North, and if I am to support Kwara North, I will support the most competent person who will add value to Kwara and who listens to the people. That person is the Speaker,” Suleiman said.

Responding to questions about other prominent aspirants from Kwara North, including Senator Sadiq Umar, Suleiman insisted his position was based on personal experience and close working relationship with the Speaker.

“It is the person you are close to that you will talk about. I spoke about what I know,” he stated, dismissing claims of bias against other aspirants.

The endorsement is seen as politically significant, given Suleiman’s role within the governor’s inner circle, and suggests that alignments within the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be taking shape as discussions on zoning and succession ahead of 2027 continue to intensify in the state.
