The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned people living with asthma and other respiratory conditions to take precautionary measures as dusty weather conditions persist across parts of the country.
The agency issued the advisory in its latest weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, noting that dust particles are currently in suspension in the atmosphere, which could pose health risks to vulnerable individuals.
NiMet advised members of the public to remain cautious and take necessary steps to protect their health, especially those with breathing difficulties.
“Driving in the rain should be done with caution. Airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for effective flight planning,” the agency said.
It also urged residents to stay updated with regular weather information from NiMet to guide daily activities and travel decisions.
According to the forecast, hazy conditions and sunshine are expected across most parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
NiMet predicted sunny and hazy skies over the North-Central region throughout the forecast period, while the southern region is expected to experience generally sunny conditions with patches of cloud and the possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms.
The agency said light rainfall is likely later in the day over parts of Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
For Tuesday, NiMet forecast moderate dust haze over parts of Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa and Taraba states, with slight dust haze expected across the rest of the northern region.
“Sunny skies with few cloud patches are anticipated over the southern region, with chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rains over Ogun, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, Delta, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states,” the agency stated.
By Wednesday, NiMet said thick dust haze is expected over the northern region, while moderate dust haze is anticipated across the central parts of the country.
The southern region, according to the agency, is likely to experience sunny skies with few clouds, alongside isolated thunderstorms and light rains over parts of Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
