In a significant move to empower the next generation of agricultural leaders, young farmers in Nigeria held a seminar and workshop training for the youth in kwara.
The event, which took place at the Kwara State Library, brought together aspiring young farmers, agricultural enthusiasts, students of Agric and industry experts to share knowledge and skills essential for modern farming practices.
The seminar in collaboration with the kwara state government, featured various sessions on sustainable agriculture, innovative farming techniques, financial literacy in farming, and the importance of technology in agriculture.
Participants were engaged in hands-on workshops that aimed to equip them with practical skills that would enhance their productivity and entrepreneurial capabilities.
The Kwara State Governor, Mall Abdularasaq Abdulrahman ably represented by the state commissioner for Agric, Dr. Alabi Afeez Abolore extol the organiser of the programme, adding that his government is always ready to collaborate and provide an enabling environment for the young farmers in Kwara state, highlighting the State’s deliberate efforts to modernize agriculture.

He reaffirmed the administration’s goal of creating an enabling environment, where young farmers can thrive, adopt new technologies, and transform agriculture into a profitable and sustainable enterprise.
Further reflecting the administration’s commitment, the Governor noted ongoing investments in rural infrastructure and value-addition initiatives, alongside reforms aimed at making agricultural processes more efficient.
He encouraged young farmers to see themselves as pivotal contributors to strengthening Kwara’s food economy and urged them to maximise the knowledge gained to grow their agribusiness ventures.
Engr. Aremu Ridwan Mayaki, the State Coordinator for the Young Farmers Initiative, expressed his gratitude towards the Kwara State government for its unwavering support of youth development initiatives.
In his statement, he said, “We are immensely grateful to the Kwara State government for creating an enabling environment for our youths to thrive.
This seminar is not just an event; it is a stepping stone towards building a robust agricultural sector in our state. By investing in our young farmers today, we are securing the future of agriculture in Kwara.”
Engr. Mayaki further emphasized the importance of youth involvement in agriculture as a means of addressing unemployment and food security challenges in the region.

A facilitator from the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Engr. Dr. Awu John Ibe, delivered a presentation that underscored the importance of innovation in transforming agriculture.
He highlighted the impact of smart farming practices and the technologies that enable greater precision, efficiency, and sustainability in agricultural operations.
The training segment was anchored by Adun Green Foundation and facilitated by its Co-Founder, Mr. Olaribigbe Tajudeen.
He led participants through practical sessions focused on precision farming techniques, reduction of post-harvest losses, methods for maximising yields across various farm sizes, and sustainable approaches that support market-driven agricultural growth.
Participants gained practical, actionable insights to immediately enhance their productivity and agribusiness outcomes.
In attendance was the Deputy Chief Whip of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Mariam Aladi, the Commissioner for Youths Development, Ambassador Ndanusa Usman Shehu; the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas; and the a representative of Managing Director LNRBDA.
The event also includes the Senior Special Adviser on Agriculture, Mr. Musa Baba Mohammed, the Special Adviser on Small Holder Farmers, Hon. Sulaiman Abdullahi Belle, Senior special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs Adebara Abbdullateef, a representative of Ilorin South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Mojeed Podo; students from various institutions; agricultural vendors from across the State, and many other stakeholders.
The seminar concluded with participants expressing enthusiasm about the knowledge gained and their commitment to applying what they learned in their farming practices.
Many attendees highlighted the need for continuous training and support from both the government and private sectors to further enhance their skills.
The Young Farmers Initiative is dedicated to fostering a new generation of agricultural leaders who are equipped to tackle the challenges facing the sector today.
This seminar marks a significant step towards achieving that vision.
