In a move set to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation, google has announced that university students across six African countries Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe — will receive one year of free access to its premium Google AI Pro package, powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, the company’s most advanced artificial intelligence model.
The initiative, running from October 7 to December 9, 2025, targets students aged 18 and above and is designed to give them hands-on experience with professional-grade AI tools for research, creativity, and problem-solving.

Guided Learning: Simplifies complex concepts, summarises academic materials, and even debugs code — acting as an AI-powered personal tutor.
Deep Research: Automatically generates well-referenced academic reports and essays from multiple verified sources, saving students hours of manual work.
NotebookLM: Organises research notes, links related ideas, and generates concise summaries — perfect for thesis and project preparation.
Veo 3: Converts text and images into professional-quality short videos, ideal for media, communication, and design students exploring visual storytelling.
2TB of Cloud Storage: Students receive two terabytes of space across Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos to securely manage academic and creative projects.
Students can verify their eligibility via gemini.google/students by uploading their school ID or enrollment proof. The verification, handled through SheerID, takes only a few minutes and doesn’t require any payment.
