The Nigeria Police Force has announced the suspension of its enforcement of the vehicle tinted glass permit following a court order restraining the exercise.

Spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, made the disclosure during an interview on Africa Independent Television (AIT) on Wednesday.

According to Adeh, the police received a formal notice of the court injunction and have immediately complied with the directive.

“Information reaching me from the office of the PRO is that the order has been received, and the enforcement of the tinted permit is now on hold pending the court’s verdict,” she said.

She explained that the directive will remain suspended until the court gives its final judgment on the matter.
“We are waiting for the verdict. We are not against the courts, and we will continue to wait until we get a verdict,” Adeh added.

Addressing concerns raised by members of the public, the police spokesperson clarified that the tinted glass regulation was introduced primarily for security purposes and not as a revenue-generating scheme.

“The law was not made by us. We are enforcers. The policy was purely security-driven. Some criminals were using tinted vehicles to commit offences, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify suspects,” she stated.

Adeh also dismissed speculations that the policy had financial motives, stressing that all payments for tinted glass permits are made directly into the Federal Government’s Treasury Single Account (TSA), and not to the police.

The court order and subsequent suspension come amid growing public debate over the legality and relevance of the tinted permit policy, which many motorists have described as outdated and cumbersome.
