Lagos Police Break Silence on Alleged School Attack Threat, Reassure Parents

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed widespread fears triggered by a viral notice claiming that bandits were planning to attack schools and abduct pupils in the state.

The security alert, which circulated across social media platforms and messaging groups, sparked anxiety among parents, guardians and school authorities. However, the police have assured residents that there is no credible intelligence indicating any imminent threat to schools in Lagos.

Reacting to the development on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the command was aware of the report and had already taken steps to assess the situation.

According to the police, investigations conducted so far have not uncovered any verified security threat linked to the alarming notice.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to assure the public that there is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State,” the statement said.

The command urged parents, students and residents not to panic, stressing that every security concern is treated seriously regardless of its source.

To further reassure the public, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed an immediate security assessment and ordered increased deployment of officers to schools and other strategic locations across the state.

Police authorities disclosed that operatives have also been working closely with other security agencies to strengthen surveillance around schools, critical infrastructure and residential communities.

The command maintained that Lagos remains safe and that proactive security measures are already in place to prevent any breach of public peace.

It also warned criminals against attempting to exploit public fears, vowing to deal decisively with anyone found spreading insecurity or engaging in criminal activities.

“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear or insecurity will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement added.

Residents were encouraged to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.

The police emphasized that community cooperation remains vital to effective policing and maintaining security across Lagos State.

Members of the public can report emergencies or suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency lines.

The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, assuring residents that it will continue to monitor the situation and take all necessary steps to guarantee public safety.
