The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has boosted the operations of the Nigerian Army in Bayelsa State with the donation of a 300kV transformer and other electrification facilities.

The items were officially handed over to the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Yenagoa on Monday.

Speaking at the event, the NDDC Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku—represented by the Executive Director, Projects, Dr. Victor Antai—explained that the intervention followed a request by the Brigade to strengthen security infrastructure in the Niger Delta.

According to a statement signed by the NDDC’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the gesture is part of the Commission’s commitment to supporting security agencies in oil-producing communities.

Dr. Ogbuku said, “As an interventionist agency, we received a request from the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army here in Yenagoa to assist in safeguarding vital security infrastructure across the Niger Delta. Under our mandate, we resolved to provide critical electrical support for the Brigade.”

He further disclosed that beyond the transformer, the Commission also installed and strung 156 high-tension prestressed concrete poles, 90 low-tension poles, and completed 500-watt streetlights for the military formation.

The NDDC boss expressed confidence that the facilities would boost the Army’s efficiency and enhance the fight against insecurity in the region.

In his remarks, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oloyede, commended the NDDC for its consistent support to the military.

“Most of the projects commissioned here today were executed by the Niger Delta Development Commission. We appreciate their commitment to the Nigerian Army and to the people of the region,” Oloyede said.
