Seven people have been arrested by the Yobe State Police Command for allegedly operating an illegal gun-running factory in Potiskum, a major town in the state.
This development aligns with the renewed strategies of the Commissioner of Police aimed at combating crime and criminality across the state, marking a significant breakthrough in uncovering the illegal firearms fabrication site in Potiskum.
According to a Crime Bulletin issued by the Command and signed by the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at approximately 6:00 PM.

Acting on credible intelligence, the Potiskum Area Command conducted a coordinated raid in collaboration with the Divisional Police Headquarters after receiving reports that some blacksmiths were engaged in the illegal fabrication of Dane guns and other firearms.
Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, a blacksmith workshop located at Tasha Adua along Danchuwa Road, Potiskum.During the operation, the police arrested seven suspects and recovered several exhibits, including two fabricated pistols, twenty-four muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable Dane guns, one filing machine, and one sharp cutlass.
The suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigations to identify their collaborators, potential buyers, and the intended use of the fabricated firearms.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, has directed the officers handling the case to intensify their investigations, identify other illegal firearms fabrication centers within the area, and assess the level of security threats posed by such criminal activities.
The Command further advises members of the public not to allow their premises or facilities to be used for unlawful activities, including the fabrication of dangerous weapons.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies.
